On the Laikipia Plateau, Loisaba has become a stronghold for some of Africa's most threatened wildlife. Elephants and wild dogs still roam here, but its most ambitious efforts center on black rhino reintroduction. Once lost from the area, rhinos are being brought back through an intensive protection and monitoring program that combines cutting-edge technology with on-the-ground rangers, many of them drawn from local communities. Wide open plains, rocky escarpments, and starlit skies frame a landscape home to one of Africa's greatest conservation stories.
