KwaZulu-Natal is where subtropical beaches run into game-rich hills. Offshore, coral reefs and shipwrecks shelter dolphins, rays, and nesting turtles, while inland reserves like Hluhluwe–iMfolozi are historic strongholds for rhino conservation. Beyond its nature, Zulu culture, battlefield history, and lively towns give the region a depth that matches its ecological richness.

As the first-ever brand ambassadors in SSI’s 50-year history, we’re proud to help redefine what it means to be a pro diver. SSI believed in us early—supporting our mission before anyone else. Since then, we’ve pushed to show that you can turn passion into profession without quitting your day job. Today, we help SSI grow their global reach by connecting with divers who care as deeply about the ocean as they do about safety, skill, and sustainability.
At South Africa’s northeastern tip, Kosi Bay sits within the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This estuarine system is a labyrinth of lakes, mangroves, and channels where turtles, rays, and colorful reef fish thrive. Onshore, traditional fish traps—handed down for generations—dot the shallows, while birdlife fills the wetlands. And the last remaining tuskers, or elephants with 100lb tusks, are safeguarded here in protected parks.
Durban is South Africa’s subtropical port city, where beaches meet warm Indian Ocean waters. Just offshore lies Aliwal Shoal, one of the world’s top dive sites, known for its ragged-tooth sharks, turtles, and sprawling reefs. Closer to shore, dolphins surf the waves and humpback whales migrate past each winter. With its surf scene, curry houses, and buzzing boardwalks, Durban blends urban energy with direct access to some of the country’s most spectacular marine life.
