Nazaré

Nazaré is where the ocean shows its true scale. The underwater Nazaré Canyon funnels swells into shore, creating waves that can tower to 100 feet—the largest ever surfed. Each winter, elite surfers test themselves here, and are watched from cliffs that look down on the Atlantic's rawest power. And on land, the seafood is some of the best in all of Portugal, bringing people from around the globe to this tiny speck of a village.
