Nova Scotia is Atlantic Canada at its most maritime — the Bay of Fundy's tides (the highest in the world, rising and falling over 50 feet), the Cabot Trail winding around Cape Breton, and fishing villages like Lunenburg (a UNESCO World Heritage town) that still run on lobster boats and church bells.

Halifax Stanfield International is the main gateway for the province. From Halifax it's a manageable drive to the Bay of Fundy shore in one direction or up toward Cape Breton and the Cabot Trail in the other.

Summer (June–September) is the mildest, most reliable window for coastal touring, tidal-bore rafting and whale watching. Fall (September–October) brings sharp foliage color along the Cabot Trail. Winters are properly cold and snowy.

August into September pairs the best weather with peak whale-watching season in the Bay of Fundy, before the fall crowds arrive for foliage season.

Lobster rolls are the obvious headline, but Digby scallops, Solomon Gundy (pickled herring), Lunenburg sausage, and the province's cool-climate "Tidal Bay" wine style are all worth seeking out specifically.

The Bay of Fundy is a critical summer feeding ground for the critically endangered North Atlantic right whale, alongside humpback and minke whales. Atlantic puffins nest on offshore islands, bald eagles are a common sight along the coast, and seals haul out on the tidal flats as the water recedes.

Cold, current-driven water makes this advanced diving — the Bay of Fundy's extreme tidal range turns ordinary dive sites into strong-current dives that need real planning. The payoff is a coastline scattered with wrecks (from wartime losses to fishing schooners) and a cold-water ecosystem of scallops, lobster and kelp that most divers never get to see.
